Our region offers a lifestyle that’s hard to beat - services that help to ensure all of our residents experience a standard of living that is on a par with our city cousins, along with a wonderful sense of community and laid back approach to life. All in all, we enjoy the best of both worlds – the peace, quiet and wide open spaces of rural living and the city style convenience of retail precincts, comprehensive and modern education and health facilities and a full range of professional services.
Natural Attractions and our Environment
There are plenty of things to see and do if you want to get out of doors. Our region is home to world class national parks and conservation areas that attract national and international visitors. We have caves, volcanoes, sinkholes and wetlands. If you like coastal life, there are lots of wonderful beaches and plenty of ocean fun is to be had in small towns like Kingston and Beachport, all within easy driving distance from major centres. These and many more stunning and spectacular natural assets mean that you are spoilt for choice when it comes to filling in free time. While you are travelling around you can take your pick of camping and barbeque facilities and holiday accommodation – leaving plenty of time for recreational pursuits or simply relaxing the days away.
Safety
You can relax when it comes to personal security. Like many country regions, a strong community spirit exists in the Limestone Coast. People look out for and look after each other. Who could ask for more – friendly neighbours, a sense of community and a safe environment for your family!
Cost of living
As you probably know, South Australia is well known for its low cost of living compared to other states in Australia. Your new Limestone Coast lifestyle doesn’t have to cost too much either. Looking for your dream home? Depending on what it is and where you want to live in the region, many areas offer affordable, quality housing for purchase making renting a thing of the past. In 2009, the Australian Consumer Association magazine 'Choice' ranked Mount Gambier as the 12th cheapest city in South Australia for groceries and the 12th Australia wide.
Accessibility
The Limestone Coast is well serviced by passenger transport, with daily flights and bus services to and from Melbourne and Adelaide. We are well connected with highways and major roads too, making for an easy, safe drive for friends or family to visit. Taxi services are available in larger towns and freight services both within and outside of the region are fast, regular and reliable.
Quality primary produce
The Limestone Coast is home to many of Australia’s fine wine regions including Coonawarra, Mount Benson, Robe, Wrattonbully and Padthaway. Seafood abounds and you can feast on such delicacies as barramundi, salmon, abalone and trout, as well as our most famous catch, the Southern Rock Lobster – crayfish for those in the know! Foodies might also enjoy emu mettwurst, pure organic honey, indigenous condiments and spices, succulent meats, and fresh fruit and veg. All in all, plenty of cellar doors, produce markets, and farm gate sales means you won’t go hungry!
